![]() I am interested in these for the following reasons: Quote from: Fanatical_and_Sickly on January 16, 2014, 04:14:44 PM to me, they are one of the lowest of the current gimmicks in the card world, compounded with this being a reprint set done for the sole intent to milk more money from the collectors using the absolute minimum of effort on Topps part. ![]() If you just like looking at refractor-paper, it's sold in hobby and craft shops for a lot less than what topps will charge. (yes, we've already had 50 foil stickers in the ANS sets)Īs bad as the alternate border colors have been, this would be worse, as it obliterates the ability to appreciate the art like Dave says, which is kind of the whole point of Wackys. Many of the foil cards in ANS had too much silver within the image and they couldn't be seen clearly. While a foil background completely outside the border isn't too bad, like the 75th Anniversary Gadzooka, if they decide to make the art silverized, refractorized, prismaticized, or whatever other term they have, it's obscuring the art and looks hideous. The only thing different here from a regular set is that they are shiny. ![]() A silver lining in an otherwise stale hobby. To me, they are one of the lowest of the current gimmicks in the card world, compounded with this being a reprint set done for the sole intent to milk more money from the collectors using the absolute minimum of effort on Topps part. The one positive for collectors is how good artists are becoming at their craft as sketches are only getting better and better in most sets. Old5 was a cool set but as you said how many of the same characters can they sketch out before it gets stale for collectors. I only saw the wp chrome packs in stores for a very short amount of time and noone was buying them so that probably explains why they cancelled any follow up set. So that would explain why people aren't selling them, although if their true intention was to profit, they missed that opportunity months ago already. gpk supers went from 500 to 1000 and then back down to 750, 500 and now 350. Prices have been dipping on these things anyways. Looks like most of the supers are still sitting in unopened boxes somewhere not be reopened again until the next anniversary in 15 years or so from now. The old cards still win out in a matchup vs chrome any day of the week. The chrome treatment was cool, but the art doesn't stand out and/or enhance it any. Kind of like this wacky packages chrome set. I hardly ever go for bonus or promo cards and it hardly ever entices me to purchase a "limited" item, instead i simply opt out and dismiss it all together. Now adays i just pick up a base set and a few parallel sets on ebay and call it a day. ![]() I don't personally collect the sketches so they don't draw me in. I have only seen prices plummet since 2010 in every topps product that's been released. Might as well wait for rock bottom prices once the market collapses then to pay premium for supposed investment value. I picked up some of the earliest wacky packages sets a few years back solely for the art but i wouldn't do it again seeing as how the same pieces are just being released again on a new cardstock or with a different colored border. ![]() I think the Dinosaurs Attacks line will be next to get this treatment. Seems they are milking it for all its worth and they seem to be squeezing out the last remaining squirts at this point, not just with WP's but elsewhere with the Mars Attacks and with Garbage Pail Kids too. ![]()
